Modern day Arkansas and Southeast Missouri were the primary territory of the Quapaw tribe during the late 17thcentury through the 18th century (Key 2001:3). The Quapaw held major power, especially in light of their location along the Missouri River and Arkansas River. According to the website of the Quapaw Tribe, the Quapaw lived on the coast of the Atlantic with the Osage, who were also Missouri Indigenous peoples.
